Eremospatha haullevilleana
General description:
Stems to 25 m long, circular in cross-section; leaves bifid at juvenile stage, when adult pinnate, up to 1.2 m long; cirrus 60 cm long; inflorescences up to 35 cm long; flowers born in close sub-distichous pairs; fruits oblong, 2.5-3 cm long and 1.5-2 cm in diameter.
Distribution:
Eremospatha haullevilleana occurs in the lowland forest of the Congo Basin (Sunderland, 2012) and reported by Baker (2008) for Angola.
Habitat:
This species is found both in closed-canopy forest and in open areas (Sunderland, 2012). In West Africa this species has been reported in the riverine and swamp forest, apparently from lowlands to 1300 m. (Dransfield, 1982).
